BC Ombudsperson’s Report Released
The BC Ombudsperson publicly released a report on March 7th, 2019 titled “Committed to Change: Protecting the Rights of Involuntary Patients under the Mental Health Act”. The Report makes 24 recommendations to the government including more advocates for mentally ill patients. The Mental Health Review Board expects an increase in applications for review panel hearings as a result of increased public awareness from the Report about the legal rights of the mentally ill patients who are involuntarily admitted and detained under the Mental Health Act.
